One simple way to exceed expectations

What’s one small thing that most people overlook—but high-level leaders do consistently?

They follow through.

I’ve been interviewing high-achieving women for my upcoming book—leaders, founders, creatives, and CEOs. And one theme keeps showing up: the power of intentional follow-up.

These women aren’t just smart or successful. They’ve built reputations on reliability. They’re the ones who follow up after the meeting. Who check in after the win—or the loss. Who stay present when others move on.

And that one habit?  It’s a quiet, powerful way to exceed expectations.

Because anyone can make a good first impression.
But it’s the second, third, and unexpected touch points that people remember.

Is it possible that you’re missing opportunities—not because of a lack of connection or potential, but simply because you didn’t follow up?

The lead that went nowhere.
The connection that faded.
The timing that passed.
Not because the potential wasn’t there—but because you didn’t take the next step.

That’s the cost of not following through. And it’s avoidable.

So if you’re looking for a way to elevate how you show up this week, don’t overthink it: Follow up. Circle back. Let someone know they matter.
That’s the kind of leadership people don’t forget.

This Week’s Mindset Challenge:

Pick three people you’ve been meaning to follow up with—and do it.

Not to sell. Not to fix. Simply to show up with care and intention.

Success Strategy: The 3x3 Follow-Up

Set aside 15 minutes, three times this week, to reconnect with three people—clients, collaborators, or connections.

It’s simple. Intentional. And incredibly effective.

Because exceeding expectations doesn’t always require more effort—just more care and intention.
